Slavsky Efim Pavlovich
Born – 1898-1991; Birth place – Makeevka, Donetsky oblast, Ukraine.
Minister of Medium-scale Industry of USSR, engineer-metallurgist. Organizer of production in metallurgic and machinery system, initiator and inspirer of modern architecture in Ust-Kamenogorsk. Participant of Great Patriotic War. After graduating from Moscow University of nonferrous metals and gold, Slavsky sweated over in aluminium plant. Further years he was in charge of major posts in Soviet and economic areas. Then, he was appointed as Minister of Medium-scale Industry, chairman of State Production Committee on Medium-scale Industry. Atomic science and technology in USSR, Eastern Europe, South-Eastern Asia were developed under his guidance, nuclear shield of the country become firm, atomic stations and gadgets of various purposes were put into operation, production of uranium, gold and production of mineral resources were worked and applied, implementing isotopes on medicine, agriculture and other areas of people’s economy, new modern atom grades were erected. Since 1962 till 1988 Slavsky was elected as deputy for Supreme Soviet of USSR from EKO. In subsequent years, he put a lot of effort in city’s development. Three-time Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of Lenin and State Prize Winner of USSR, Slavsky is awarded nine orders of Lenin. Irtysh Embankment of Ust-Kamenogorsk is named after Slavsky.
