Ust-Kamenogorsk monuments

In Ust-Kamenogorsk 33 monuments are under state protection.
They are:
Monuments of public art - 4,
historical - 11,
architecture - 16,
archaeological - 2.
9 monuments are on accounting.
About the most interesting historical monument, Ust-Kamenogorsk fortress, almost nothing reminds today, except the fragments of the earthen rampart with moats about 600 meters in length, with the partially saved configuration of the bastion of the southern part of the fortress. It leads to the right bank of Irtysh River, and the only surviving building is the building of the former Troitskaya Church.
How did Ust-Kamenogorsk look like in the late XIX - early XX centuries? Ust-Kamenogorsk on the ridge of the centuries was a small province town, consisting of several streets and lanes, completely formed with the dams of the wooden fence.
A prominent researcher of East Kazakhstan A.H. Sedelnikov, giving the characteristics of the city, wrote in 1903: "At the present time Ust-Kamenogorsk, being the second largest city in Semipalatinsk region, is, however, looks like a large village. There are no big and rich shops, no big trade and in general, from outside, it does not look like a city ... "
Gradually, with the development of the gold craft, local industry and trade, the city begins to be built up with brick houses, merchant's stores and public buildings. Their owners were Ust-Kamenogorsk merchants, new Russian and Tat  bourgeois.
The main attraction of Ust-Kamenogorsk was:
two-storeyed brick building of the three-class city school (now ethnographic museum), a one-story building of Mariinsky School (regional ethnographic museum), the Public House (now Jambul Theater), Pokrovsky Cathedral, the prison’s castle and the houses of gold miners Menovshchikov (now the regional typography) and Valitov (now Altay Department of Institute of Geological Sciences named after K.Satpaev).
